Consul General Helen La Lime (left) discusses U.S Mission programs with American and South Africa students.
CAPE TOWN, South Africa. -Consul General Helen La Lime and Public Affairs officers welcomed a
bi-national group of students and staff from the Nelson Mandela
Metropolitan University (NMMU) of Port Elizabeth and the University of
Mississippi, Oxford (Ole Miss) for a briefing of U.S. Mission
activities in South Africa, followed by a reception in the shadow of
Table Mountain.
The group were in the Western Cape near the end of their two-month long program, which saw a group of about 15 NMMU students travel to Oxford, Mississippi, and then return to South Africa with a similar size group of students from Ole Miss.
Following a briefing on the work of the U.S. Mission in South Africa, led by CG Helen La Lime, the group engaged in a lively question-and-answer session that covered the gamut of policy issues facing both the U.S. and the South African Governments in matters of social, economic, and diplomatic policy.
This was the second year for the Trent Lott group to visit the Consulate General and we hope to continue this tradition of association with the Trent Lott Leadership Program next year.
