Each year the Trent Lott Leadership Institute, in association with the Study Abroad Office at The University of Mississippi, sponsors the Lott Leadership Exchange Programs for University of Mississippi students. These programs provide scholarships for selected students to learn about and in another part of the world.
The Lott Leadership Institute selects qualified freshman, sophomore, and junior Public Policy Leadership majors to participate in approved study abroad programs each summer. The 2012 Lott Leadership Exchange Programs are offered at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, the University of Osnabrueck in Germany, and Kyung Hee University in South Korea. Each program has courses carefully selected to complement the Public Policy Leadership curriculum and offers unique insights into international and comparative public policy. The application process is competitive.
The 2008 exchange program for graduate students linked UM students with University of Ulster and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University students to study in Mississippi, Northern Ireland, and South Africa. The group was challenged with studying Race, Religion and Reconciliation using events in the three countries as case studies.
